چکیده

It is shown that if a generalized definition of gauge invariance is used, gauge invariant effective stress-energy tensors for gravitational waves and other gravitational perturbations can be defined in a much larger variety of circumstances than has previously been possible. In particular it is no longer necessary to average the stress-energy tensor over a region of spacetime which is larger in scale than the wavelengths of the waves and it is no longer necessary to restrict attention to high frequency gravitational waves. 04.30.-w Typeset using REVTEX

Gravitational Geons Revisited

A careful analysis of the gravitational geon solution found by Brill and Hartle is made. The gravitational wave expansion they used is shown to be consistent and to result in a gauge invariant wave equation. It also results in a gauge invariant effective stress-energy tensor for the gravitational waves provided that a generalized definition of a gauge transformation is used. To leading order th...

General Relativistic Numerical Simulation on Coalescing Binary Neutron Stars and Gauge-Invariant Gravitational Wave Extraction

We are developing 3 dimensional simulation codes for coalescing binary neutron stars. A code using the maximal slicing condition is obtained. To evaluate the gravitational radiation, we implemented a gauge-invariant wave extraction and compared the wave forms with the metric tensors at the wave zone. The energy spectrum of the waves was also evaluated to investigate the possibility that the exc...

We present a completely gauge invariant treatment of the energy carried by a gravitational fluctuation in a general curved background. Via a varia-tional principle we construct an energy-momentum tensor for gravitational fluctuations whose covariant conservation condition is gauge invariant. With contraction of this energy-momentum tensor with a Killing vector of the background allowing us to c...

Approximate Symmetries and the Energy in Spacetimes

There is a problem of defining energy in time-varying spacetimes as energy is not conserved in them. The problem is particularly severe for gravitational waves as there is no conventional stress-energy tensor. The gravitational field is given by the Weyl tensor. The gravitational field is given by the Weyl tensor but that does not provide a measure of the energy. Pseudo tensors are introduced b...

Doubly-gauge-invariant formalism of brane-world cosmological perturbations

We review the doubly gauge invariant formalism of cosmological perturbations in the Randall-Sundrum brane world. This formalism leads to four independent equations describing the evolution of scalar perturbations. Three of these equations are differential equations written in terms of gauge invariant variables on the brane only, and the other is an integro-differential equation describing non-l...
